USFS Climate Gallery - Francis Marion National Forest: Adapting to Climate Change StoryMap
This StoryMap describes first, how climate change is transforming the Francis Marion National Forest; second, how land changes and urbanization are affecting the area; and third, how land managers can improve the resilience of these lands to changing conditions.
The South Carolina Lowcountry, along the southeastern coast of the state, includes important natural areas, such as the Francis Marion National Forest, Santee Coastal Reserve, and Cape Romain Wildlife Refuge. Over the last decade, the United States experienced new records for extreme temperature, drought, storms, and wildfire. These events challenge our ability to ensure forests are healthy and resilient to stresses caused by extreme environmental conditions.
