Storm surge—the abnormal rise of water generated by a storm, over and above the predicted astronomical tides—can lead to saltwater flooding of locations far inland from the coast. This map can help identify which neighborhoods are vulnerable to such flooding when hurricanes, tropical storms, or nor'easters arrive.

The map displays the following data:

• Sea, Lake, and Overland Surge from Hurricanes (SLOSH) models by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
• 100 and 500 year flood plains from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA); and
• Hurricane strike dataset from the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
