Sea The Future

Using a sea level rise visualization tool responsibly requires an understanding of the underlying assumptions, methodologies, and specifications of the tool. Sea the Future helps Californians identify the visualization tools that best meet their needs.

If you've ever felt inundated by the number of flooding and sea level rise visualization tools available, this tool can help you keep your head above water.

Sea the Future was created to help Californians understand the available sea level rise and flood visualization web tools. The number of these tools and the subtle differences between them can be confusing and, in some cases, a barrier to planning for sea level rise. Tools include those that primarily map sea level rise and flood inundation layers, as well those that provide inundation layers in relation to built and natural resources.

The tool presents a comparison matrix that helps users identify tools based on location or by distinguishing tool features, as well as compare methodologies and features across multiple tools. Sea the Future does not recommend or endorse one tool over another, nor does it tell the user which tool should be used for research, planning, or implementation work—it provides summary information and presents similarities and differences among tools.
