Farmers depend on irrigation to grow crops in some portions of the Northwest. As early as the 2030s, demand for irrigation in the Columbia River Basin is projected to increase 5% in response to climate change. Future changes in available water supply may limit the availability of irrigation. Crop and livestock producers may need new to invest in new methods of water storage or alternative water sources.
